Go-To-Market Lead US

Growth & Marketing

Full time

Amsterdam

Looking for a new adventure? You’ve come to the right place.

We're an Amsterdam-based team of 75+ (and counting) with 25+ nationalities amongst us! A varied bunch of Citizens of The World with a wide range of skills and hundreds of thousands of kilometers under our travel belts. And we have something important in common (other than our very well-worn passports): We want to change the way people travel.

And that's exactly what we're doing, with the travel app to plan, track, and relive trips in a smart and beautiful way.

Polarsteps has over 15 million users already, but, for us, this is just the beginning. We have big plans for the future, and so we need even more talented and enthusiastic people to help us on our journey.

Want to know more about us? Here you go.

Your expedition: Growth & Marketing at Polarsteps

Over the past 10 years, Polarsteps has grown massively through word-of-mouth, thanks to our product and tech department building a top-quality user experience for all our travelers world-wide.

We’re about to hit 1 million users in the US, all organically; now we want to speed things up. We’re looking for someone to build and grow this market like it’s a startup within our scaleup - with drive, hustle and creativity.

Your mission:

You’ll be the driving force behind growing Polarsteps into a major travel app in the US. This is not a traditional marketing or strategy role; this is for someone who can build traction with bold bets and unusual tactics. It’s a hands-on, do things that don’t scale job, where you’ll be testing hundreds of ideas, refining them and doubling down on those that work.

This role will be based in Amsterdam (we can help you relocate!) but we expect that you’ll be spending at least a few weeks a quarter in the US, so you need to be happy to travel a lot.

What you’ll do:

  • Own local market entry across key US cities: Develop and execute hyperlocal launch strategies that mix product intuition, brand storytelling, and street-level insight. This is way beyond paid ads - from personalised outreach to key influencers to physical activations and partnerships with unexpected allies.

  • Invent & experiment: Design experiments that reach travelers where they are - hostels, trailheads, niche Reddit threads… and pilot things no one has tried before

  • Create local network effects: Seed the market by building an initial user base in high-density travel communities, host events, engage with early adopters, and create loops that pull in their friends.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with the Product, Marketing and Growth teams in Amsterdam to translate field learnings into improvements and broader campaign strategies.

  • Build the playbook: Document what works - and what doesn’t - as you go, creating a blueprint we can roll out to other US cities (and eventually other countries).

  • Work closely with our Head of Growth and our CEO as we turn the organic sparks we have in the US into something huge

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in a high-growth consumer environment, ideally in BD/ops, GTM, or launching new markets (early startups or scaleups preferred - think early Uber launchers for new markets). If you don’t have this experience but you’re truly exceptional (e.g. you’ve built your own business before or done extraordinary things), we’d still like to hear from you

  • Thrives in ambiguity and can work from very open briefs

  • Loves talking to users as much as analyzing data

  • Can come up with a ridiculous number of ideas and find a way to execute on a massive number of them

  • Isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves - this isn’t a strategic thinking role but one where you’ll flourish by doing a lot of things very quickly

  • Can blend creativity with structured thinking - tracking outcomes, iterating, and helping others learn from your process

  • Is eligible for a US ESTA (or otherwise has the right to travel for work to the US)

Bonus points if you:

  • Are from the US or have lived/worked in the US

  • Have experience with US business development for a consumer business

  • Have a background in content, brand, or experiential marketing

  • Are deeply embedded in US travel culture

This is an unusual role. It will be a chance to be one of the first 100 at Polarsteps, as we become a global brand. If you succeed in this role, you’ll be positioned extremely well in the organization as we expand to new territories - and we can promise that you won’t be bored.

1st class extras

Some cool things to make the journey extra sweet.

  • A yearly free flight or train ride to a random location! Give our Teleporter a spin here.

  • A shiny MacBook to work your magic on.

  • Hybrid working, our way. Work from home and the office — we ask everyone to be in the office 2 days a week. It’s how we stay flexible, focused, and meaningfully connected in person.

  • An extensive home office set-up — everything from noise-canceling headphones to a standing desk.

  • 30 days of vacation (for adventures or sitting on the couch, it's up to you).

  • Two paid Culture Days for days that are important to you but not recognized by the official Dutch calendar.

  • The option to switch up your zoom background by working from another country for up to 8 weeks a year.

  • A personal development budget for that curious mind of yours!

  • A pension plan to help you save for those around-the-world retirement trips.

  • Delicious daily team lunches.

  • Awesome monthly parties, as well as team trips away.

  • A lively office in downtown Amsterdam. And are you living more than 7 km away from the office? Your commute is covered by us!

  • Free Polarsteps Travel Books to contain all your far-flung adventures.

At Polarsteps, we believe the best products are built by people as diverse as the travelers using our apps! That's why we specifically encourage people underrepresented in the tech industry to apply for a role with us. Because we believe that diversity — be it age, race, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, or gender identity — makes both the world and the workplace better.
